This is Sparta!
In the movie 300, a must see by the way. King Leonidas screams, "This is Sparta!" Before kicking the emissary of his enemy Xerxes, down a well. Why, this brutal response to an unarmed emissary? Well, the messenger had come to Leonidas threatening the destruction of Sparta, and the enslavement of its people, if Leonidas did not bend to the will of Xerxes. Rather than stomach this insult, Leonidas sent the emissary, along with his companions, to a watery grave.
You see, Sparta was a strong nation. A proud people, who didn't like being threatened by aspiring Persian dictators. They were also a civilized people, at least by the standards of that day. And weren't afraid to fight for their freedom.
Today, you would have to say that America is Sparta. A great civilization, with unsurpassed military might. And like Sparta, threatened by a force from the Middle East. But, how have we dealt with our would-be Persian dictators?
Iran has talked openly about wiping Israel off the face of the Earth. Mused publicly about a world without America, and aided every enemy of our nation while developing nuclear weapons.
Yet, we have done nothing! In the real battle of Thermopylae, upon which 300 is based, Sparta was hopelessly outnumbered by the Persians. Fighting to the death against the harshest odds. We, on the other hand, could swat the Iranians like a fly without ever even having to invade the country. Our fleet could smash theirs' in a matter of weeks, and enforce a naval blockade that would bring the "Mullahcracy" to its knees, faster than you could say regime change.
Yet, all we hear out of Washington is talk of the need for "diplomacy." Why, do we think that would work? How are we going to use diplomacy when the Iranians actually have the bomb? Did diplomacy get us anywhere once the Russians had the bomb? What are we willing to surrender to the Iranians for the sake of peace?
King Leonidas, knew that "peace" with a dictator is no peace at all. It was submission and slavery under another name. What we need now is strength from our leaders. Not whimsical, Chamberlain-esque talk of peace. While, the "Hun is at the gate." What we need now is a Churchill, a Reagan, and a Thatcher. Someone, to kick our enemy down the well. And let them Know in no uncertain terms; "This is Sparta!".
Let's cut to the chase, shall we?
