Myth: The military is full of a bunch of dumb, broke yahoos!
 

Now, of all the institutions in this country, you would think that the military. Those who risk life and limb to keep us safe. Would be immune from harsh and demeaning criticism.

But, to a liberal movement that believes America is morally inferior to a bunch of be-heading sociopaths. Those who represent and defend our country are not above contempt. You see, liberals view the military kind of how the class nerd views the varsity quarterback. The nerd could never hope to be as big, strong, fast, or as good as the quarterback. So, he has to invent deficiencies for the quarterback, such as stupidity. In order to compensate for his own inadequacy.

Another liberal-ploy is to characterize the military as a bunch of poverty-stricken rednecks, or inner-city minorities. Because liberals can't even pretend to show compassion for anyone until they've demeaned and castigated them as being second-class. Because, after all. What fun would being a liberal be if there were no sad sacks to lord over?

But, as is normally the case with the left. The truth is something far different from what they say.

According to a study done by the Heritage Foundation. "The only group that is lowering (emphasis added) its participation in the military is the poor. The percentage of recruits from the poorest American neighborhoods (with one-fifth of the U.S. population) declined from 18 percent in 1999 to 14.6 percent in 2003, 14.1 percent in 2004, and 13.7 percent in 2005."

Moreover, the study also showed that the percentage of recruits from high-income (emphasis added) zip codes has steadily increased since 1999. In fact, by 2005 wealthier areas were putting out five recruits. For, every three provided by poorer neighborhoods.

Now, according to his eminence (D) Charlie Rangel of New York, the military is composed of nothing but the ash and trash of American society. Those too dumb, to succeed at any civilian endeavor. Leaving them nothing but a "nasty, brutish, and short" life as a moving target.

Well, according to the Washington Post who also did their own study. "More than 90% of military recruits have high-school diplomas, compared with 80 percent of American youth overall. Also, "about two-thirds of today's recruits score in the upper-half of standardized aptitude tests."

And let's not forget the liberals' favorite subject, race. According to Heritage, "In both 2004 and 2005, 73.1 percent of recruits were classified as white." In addition, 7.49 percent of 2005 recruits were Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, 0.69 percent were Asian, and 13.37 percent Black.

Now, that 13.37 percent is higher than the percentage of blacks in the population. Which, normally hovers around 12.75 percent. But, it hardly indicates that the military is just prowling around black neighborhoods. Conscripting un-suspecting young blacks into military service. The way Rangel and others try to make it sound.

The moral of the story is, we have a military consisting of the best among us. Not a bunch of nare-do-wells. And we have a country that's great enough to produce great soldiers from all walks of life.
