War Hero of the Week: Jesse A. Givens
I was watching HBO this past week. Yes, sometimes that happens. And they began talking about this soldier PFC. Givens from Colorado, who died in Iraq. Then his wife Melissa came on. She began reading his letters home from Iraq. He was talking about what to tell his children if he died, and how sorry he was that he had left them alone. It was then I knew that I was listening to a hero.
Someone who not only had the courage to
leave his family to fight in Iraq. But, also someone, his wife Melissa, who had the courage to read it to the world. I'm so glad she did. Because it changed me. And made me decide to permanently dedicate this page of our site to PFC. Givens and his family. We are all in their debt.
This is where we celebrate and honor our nation's heroes in the War on Terror. In the past, the media celebrated those who served. Their exploits in battles like Iwo Jima, and Midway were instant sensations, which made front-page news. The stuff of legend.
And when our soldiers returned home it was to ticker tape parades, and cheering crowds. However, today the media is enmeshed in a campaign to suppress any news of the heroism of our troops. The fact that a web page like this is even necessary is proof of that. Many could be forgiven for thinking we just don't have heroes like we used to anymore. They couldn't be more wrong. We have them in spades. But, the media deliberately ignores those stories for fear of stirring up the kind of patriotic pride that they know would ensue.
Well, not any more. We've collected these stories from various sites, which we list here, in order for you to see that this generation of Americans, the one that so many said were too soft and spoiled to face our terrorist enemy, are continuing the fine tradition of our military.
